Vakul & Vallabh @ 20 months
4 more months for their 2nd birthday. How naughty are they - Most mischievous than most of the kids I see. There are a lot of unanswered questions here.
I think Swine flu is fond of active kids.Recently both were tested +ve for H1N1.I was taken aback when the doc told they have symptoms of H1N1.I was the lone person to handle the situation. No hubby,no parents,no m-i-l to spare their hands. All were out of station. My mind was racing. What should be my next step.Stay calm, muster courage to face the reality.Call hubby and inform, call brother for help.Brother's phone -no response.Next, i had to take both of them to Rajiv Gandhi Institute Of Chest Diseases to get the test done.Aunty (my baby-sitter) and I, with each child in one hand,a few bananas, biscuits and water bottle, set out to Rajiv Gandhi.I felt the atmosphere too eerie.Everybody with masks around their nose made me dizzy. Not bad - was my next impression on the Govt hospital as it dint take much time to consult the doctor.I had to get the test done for Vakul.Vallabh should be fine with medication. After waiting for almost 2.5 hrs, the lab in-charge returned from nowhere to take the swab sample. No wonder it is, a "Govt Hospital" . In the meantime ,I sent Vallabh and aunty home with my brother. My hunger pangs subsided after eating the hotel Idli(Chuchi bought it). Came back home at 3.00pm.First time since morning,I breathed easily as they slept.I am indebted to my baby sitter for being very kind and co-operative.
5 days of medication brought them back to normal. Some thought provoking questions :
  • How did they get infected?
  • How easy is it to raise kids?
  • Should I devise a different strategy to grow them up?
I do not have answers for any of these questions.Once, we had a discussion amongst our friends about having kids.I ridiculed my friend's idea of adopting a baby. Now, I feel that should have been better.

OMG, extreme thoughts. I am sure there was chicken pox in our childhood with similar implications
