Independence Day - August 15th 2010
Mahaveer Coral celebrated Independence Day in a grand manner. As a part of the organizing committee, we planned a few programs. There are a lot of kids in our apartment and so we decided to have some competitions, dance and songs.Conducted coloring contest for kids between 2-5 yrs.Drawing contest for > 5 yrs of age.All kids enthusiastically participated. The theme for drawing was 'National Integration','A Rainy Day' and 'Beach Side'. All kids chose 'Rainy Day'.I think its easy to draw a few rain drops and umbrella.I too wanted to sit besides and draw and I knew I could definitely not compete with these talented kids.Aakansha drew a boy enjoying under the rain, playing with paper-boats and which obviously got the 1st place.Ganesh's concept was too good.Water gushing beneath a bridge and fishes and aquatic animals swimming in it.There were a lot of copy-cats for this. Then came the Lemon-n-Spoon race for pre-schoolers and memory game for school goers. It was good fun to watch them run, some with the lemon, few lemons falling off and some very shrewd kids holding the lemon with their hands and running to come first. All these were conducted prior to Independence Day.
On Independence Day, I set out at 9.00am to make some arrangements for the stage. We blew as many as 100 balloons to tie up on the stage and all around.Somehow this time a huge crowd turned up punctually.Flag hoisting was at 10.00am by Mr.RamaShesha(Water Board Director).Aakansha's group dance for Vandemataram followed the flag hoisting.Wow!! Wat a performance.Next was Ganesh's speech on Independence Day.Lakshmi had taken all the efforts to pen down the speech.Probably, the elocutions during her school days had helped her in the good composition. The training given for Ganesh on the eve of the 15th August had created wonders. He delivered a perfect one(like Chatur's speech from 3 IDIOTS-just kidding).
Then came the most awaited dance Jai-Ho by the gals. All were well decked up for the show with their pom-poms waving was really charming.Next was 'Rang-de-Basanti' dance by guy folks. All the practice paid off well with a good round of applause. After the prize distribution, it was our(Mayuri & Ankita for patient choreography,Neelema,Lakshmi & Myself)turn to get compliments from Suma(Our Association head).I got a bar chocolate with a pat on my back.Indeed a good show and I earned a few more friends!!
It was a very happy moment for all of us.The most grim part of the celebration was that the house keeping people were ignored and they were back to work to clean the mess we created. Is this the kind of independence we assure everyone?Looking ahead and back, poor remain poor.. they r destined to do some work which we r least bothered. The world is heading nowhere !!!
